Responsibilities:

facilitating compliance with the school attendance obligation, and continuing education in accordance with the conditions and the procedure laid down by the law;

keeping account of children subject to school attendance obligation;

management of the operation and maintenance of municipal educational institutions;

management of the operation and maintenance of pre-school establishments;

provision of methodological assistance to educational institutions, co-ordination and monitoring of their activities;

informing about the possibilities for learning, incl. continuing education;

management and co-ordination of youth work;

co-ordination of hobby activities;

counselling, in the matters of development and fields of study, of agencies governed by the City Government and related to the activity areas of the Department (hereinafter "governed agencies");

counselling of teachers and other employees of educational institutions;

preparation of draft legislation of the City Government and Council within the competence of the Department.

management and co-ordination of cultural and sports activities;

implementation of cultural policy;

implementation of sports policy;

supporting the activities of cultural and sports organisations;

supporting and co-ordination of cultural and sports events;

supporting and co-ordination of cultural hobby activities of citizens;

management of the issue of cultural awards;

issue of permits according to the Rules for Organising Public Events;

publishing of cultural publications;

management and analysis of the work of agencies governed by the City Government and related to the activity areas of the Department (hereinafter "governed agencies");

preparation of draft legislation of the City Government and Council within the competence of the Department.
